AZUSA, Calif. -- It's been nearly 3 weeks, but Azusa Pacific finally found a way to put together a mini winning streak, defeating Hope International in 3 games, 30-26, 30-24, 30-10, in Fullerton for its second straight win.
The Cougars opened the season with 5 straight wins, but ever since a trip to Hawaii the first week of September, they have hit some rough water. Granted, the competition has been very tough and has included 3 nationally ranked teams. Nevertheless, until last Thursday's win over The Master's, the Cougars had won just 1 of their last 5 matches. That all changed tonight as the Cougars won their second in a row for just the first time since late August.
Sophomore Maria Abaca led a well-balanced offensive attack with a team-high 9 kills. Freshman Jenny Brickner added 8 kills and 4 blocks. Juniors Jenna Sagehorn and Christy Kimmel each chipped in with 7 kills apiece. Sagehorn had a team-high 11 digs.
The Cougars are now 8-4 overall, 3-2 GSAC and get set to host Concordia Thursday night. Concordia is still searching for its first GSAC win of the season.
