AZUSA, Calif. -- Three-time NAIA All-American Jenna Sagehorn had a match-high 23 kills to go with 13 digs to lead the NAIA’s No. 21-ranked Azusa Pacific to a 29-31, 30-23, 30-21, 30-23 win over Concordia in a GSAC match in Azusa.
The Cougars, who had lost 5 of 6 coming in, improve to 14-9 overall, 6-6 in the GSAC. It is the Cougars’ sixth straight win over the Eagles.
Despite dropping the opening game to the Eagles, the Cougars controlled the match throughout. The Eagles stayed alive with their stellar blocking, totaling 12 total team blocks. Three different Eagles had at least 6 blocks.
Sagehorn’s 23 kills marks her 12th straight match with double-digit kills, the longest such streak in her 4-year career.
Senior Christy D’Jernes snagged a match-high 23 digs. She also served 4 aces, which moved her into second place on the Cougars’ career aces list with 151. She needs just 4 more to become Azusa Pacific’s all-time career leader.
Jenny Brickner added 10 kills as 5 Cougars totaled at least 7 kills. She also had a team-high 6 blocks. Roxanna Mercer had a nice all-around performance with 6 kills, 22 digs, 3 blocks, 6 assists and an ace.
Azusa Pacific next travels to Riverside to face California Baptist Tuesday (Oct. 21) at 7 p.m.
