SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- Azusa Pacific (8-1, 1-0) continued its winning ways by defeating San Diego Christian (0-1, 0-1) 30-19, 30-14, 30-20 in both teams' conference openers Tuesday night in San Diego, Calif.
Freshman Brittany Brown had a team-high 14 kills as the Cougars outhit San Diego Christian .413 to .163. Senior Colleen Walker and junior Chelsea Morgan recorded 11 kills apiece in the win.
The match was a challenging one for the Hawks considering it was not only their first GSAC contest, but the opening game to their season. The Cougars overwhelmed them in 3-straight games to extend their winning streak to 5 consecutive matches. The Cougars have now beaten the Hawks in their past 11 meetings.
Azusa Pacific is off to its best start since 2001 when it opened the season with an identical 8-1 mark.
The NAIA's No. 17-ranked Cougars will next be in action Thursday night when they play in their home opener. Azusa Pacific will take on Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) at the Felix Event Center at 7 p.m.
