AZUSA, Calif. -- Freshman setter Allison Kincheloe was named NAIA Setter of the Week as announced today by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.
The honor is the first national award of Kincheloe’s Azusa Pacific career as she sweeps player of the week awards at the conference, regional and national levels.
On Monday, Kincheloe garnered her third Golden State Athletic Conference Setter of the Week award. She also previously won the award on Sept. 12 and Oct. 10. On Tuesday, she was named Region II Setter of the Week for the second time this season.
This past week, she helped the NAIA’s No. 14-ranked Azusa Pacific navigate its way to a pair of convincing conference victories over tough foes. The wins helped the Cougars move into sole possession of third place in the GSAC coming into play Tuesday night.
In the 2 matches, Kincheloe, a freshman from Irvine, Calif., recorded 108 assists (18.0 a/g), 12 digs (2.0 d/g) and 5 assist blocks. Against No. 21-ranked Biola, she had 51 assists and 4 digs as the Cougars swept the Eagles on the road, 3-0. She followed that up with another terrific performance in a 3-0 win over Vanguard. She had 57 assists, 8 digs, 4 assist blocks and an ace in that match.
“She has really blossomed this year with the things we have taught,” said head coach Chris Keife. “We have tried to simplify things and have her make everyone else better and she has done that.”
For the season, she has tallied 1,175 assists (14 a/g) and is third on the team in both digs (216) and blocks (45).
“I let her go by feel out there and she is confident because we have 5 girls that can put the ball away,” Keife added.
Kincheloe and the Cougars will next travel to The Master’s on Friday for a match slated to begin at 7 p.m.
