Overview

APU’s Applied Exercise Science major prepares students to design and implement fitness exercise programs that improve clients’ well-being and physical performance. Initial coursework builds comprehensive foundational knowledge in biology, anatomy and physiology, the science of human movement, and exercise. Students explore risk management, psychological considerations in physical activity, and acute care of injury and illness.

These then serve as a framework for in-depth study of kinesiology, biomechanics, exercise physiology, healthcare administration, and principles of strength, conditioning, and human performance. Practicum requirements provide students with supervised opportunities to use a scientific approach to assess, develop, and implement programs. Applied Exercise science majors leave APU equipped to help clients meet their goals and improve their quality of life and human performance through exercise.
