Exercise Science Major

APU’s applied exercise science major prepares students to design and implement fitness and exercise programs that will help clients meet their goals and improve their quality of life. Initial coursework builds comprehensive foundational knowledge in biology, anatomy and physiology, the science of human movement, and fitness principles. Students explore risk management, psychological considerations in physical activity, and acute care of injury and illness.

These then serve as a framework for in-depth study of kinesiology, biomechanics, exercise physiology, healthcare administration, and principles of human performance and corrective exercise. Internship requirements provide students with supervised opportunities to use a scientific approach to assess, develop, and implement programs.
