About the Program

Why This Major Is Relevant

With childhood obesity on the rise and sedentary entertainment the norm, increased attention is being paid to the role of health education in schools. As a result, many nationwide initiatives have recently been established to promote healthy lifestyle behaviors, specifically aimed to increase physical activity and proper nutrition among youth. Schools across America are in great need of effective physical education programs to help combat the obesity problem and instruct youth toward living active and healthy lives. APU’s physical education degree uniquely positions graduates to not only be professionals in the field, but also advocates who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of future generations.

Gain In-depth Learning Experience

Service-learning internships in local public and private elementary and secondary schools provide physical education majors with practical opportunities to apply the principles and methods of teaching. APU physical education faculty remain connected in the field, and often provide internship contacts for students. Internship opportunities ensure that physical education majors graduate with relevant experience on their résumés.
