Allyn Beekman, who started at APU in 2010, is currently the administrative director for the Master of Arts in Global Leadership within the School of Behavioral and Applied Sciences. He graduated from Michigan State University in 1973 with a B.S. in Mathematics and launched a career in the computer industry before beginning in higher education. In 2004, Beekman earned an MBA from Indiana Wesleyan University. He is currently pursuing an Ed.D. in Adult, Higher, and Community Education from Ball State University.
His second career was initiated at Indiana Wesleyan University (IWU), where he spent nine years, first as program manager for two new online degree programs in the College of Adult and Professional Studies (CAPS), and then as the director of online programs. In 2006, he took on a role as associate VP for CAPS. His responsibilities included financial and operational oversight of all new CAPS programs, plus supervision of online programs, assessment and institutional effectiveness, market analysis, office of grants management, CCCU Center for Research in Adult Learning, and adjunct faculty recruitment. During this time, he also began leading IWU’s involvement in international programs, which opened in China, Dominican Republic, India, and Singapore, as well as offering online business courses in seven foreign countries.
Beekman, who met his wife, Julie, in the 11th grade, enjoys spending time with his grandchildren and traveling. He has seen many of the U.S. national parks and, over the past few years, has had an opportunity to visit Romania; Israel; Petra, Jordan; Paris, France; Delhi, India; and Singapore.
