Biography

Cindy Tanis, PhD, ATC, has been affiliated with Azusa Pacific University since 1986. She was the first to graduate from the newly developed athletic training program, and remained as a graduate assistant to further develop the program. Tanis served as head athletic trainer for 11 years, as well as program director and instructor/academic advisor. She has taught in the graduate physical education program since 1988, returning full time to the program in 2001. She is the director of the MS in Physical Education program, and is committed to teaching adult learners relevant information in the fields of physical education, athletic training, coaching, and exercise science through a Christian perspective. Her research interests include psychophysiological treatment methods for performance enhancement and pain management, and online teaching and learning. Tanis and her husband have three adult children, and she enjoys gardening, fishing, and other outdoor activities.
