Jeanie Thorndike currently serves as an assistant professor in the Master of Social Work Program at APU. She previously taught courses at APU in the graduate and undergraduate department of psychology as well as the Center for Accelerated Degree Programs. She received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the Fuller Theological Seminary Graduate School of Psychology. Her doctoral dissertation explored the effects of gratitude on resiliency, coping, well-being, and spiritual well-being. Thorndike’s MSW thesis at the University of Southern California examined the potential benefits of cognitive-behavioral therapy for latency aged-children diagnosed with PTSD following a single incident trauma.
Dr. Thorndike is an ordained Minister of Word and Sacrament in the Presbyterian Church (USA), and remains an active member of Los Ranchos Presbytery. She served as associate pastor of congregational life at Laguna Presbyterian Church in Laguna Beach, CA for 12 years. Prior to her time of ministry in Laguna Beach she served as an associate pastor for congregations in California and Texas. In addition, she is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and has worked closely with a number of community-based agencies providing supervision and leadership on agency boards.
