APU Faculty Appointed Editors of International Christian Higher Education Journal
Azusa Pacific University professors Karen Longman, Ph.D., and Laurie Schreiner, Ph.D., both from the Department of Doctoral Higher Education, are the newly appointed editors of Christian Higher Education: An International Journal of Research, Theory, and Practice, published by Taylor and Francis, one of the world’s leading publishers of scholarly journals.
“Dr. Longman and Dr. Schreiner each bring three decades of leadership experience in Christian higher education, editorial backgrounds, and extensive research experience to their new roles as editors of Christian Higher Education,” said APU Provost Mark Stanton, Ph.D., ABPP. “The university congratulates these faculty members on this prestigious honor that will enhance the university’s academic visibility and reputation.”
International, interdenominational, and interdisciplinary in scope, the peer-reviewed Christian Higher Education journal publishes original research, meta-analyses, analytical essays, book reviews, and descriptions of best practices informed by empirical research.
Prior to this selection, Longman served as guest editor of a special edition of the journal (July–October 2011 issue), which exclusively features the research of APU faculty and recent graduates of the Department of Doctoral Higher Education.
“Given the research interests of departmental faculty and the 90-plus doctoral students in our higher education programs, this journal represents a natural fit for APU,” Longman said. “We look forward to building mutually beneficial relationships with researchers around the world who share a passion for better understanding and strengthening Christian higher education.”
“Bringing this journal to APU affirms our position as a premier Christian university,” Schreiner said. “It positions our scholarship as international in scope, but targeted toward the heart of our mission: Christian higher education.”
The Christian Higher Education journal finds its home within the Center for Research on Christian Higher Education, located in the Department of Doctoral Higher Education at APU. The Department of Higher Education offers two doctoral degrees designed for professionals who work full-time: a Ph.D. in Higher Education that develops scholars who conduct original research and an Ed.D. in Higher Education Leadership that prepares graduates for leadership roles in colleges and universities, especially in student development, academic support, academic leadership, and administration. The Center for Research on Christian Higher Education provides the most current research on the field of Christian higher education. Through its website, publications, and conference programming, the center informs best practices in Christian colleges and universities.
