Overview
APU’s social work major prepares students to assist underserved populations. The degree provides a strong foundation in psychology, sociology, human diversity, and statistics. These then provide a framework for in-depth study of social work concepts, social welfare policy, political climate’s effect on social issues, aging populations, and child welfare. Field internship experience provides a backbone for the program – students complete 400 intern hours for approved community agencies.
Advanced elective coursework also allows students to tailor the curriculum to their area of interest. Some options include Christian ministry, grant writing, family violence, addiction, abnormal psychology, crime, and specific American minority experiences. Social work majors leave APU prepared to advocate for societal change and help disadvantaged citizens improve their quality of life.
