A Beautiful Thing Happened this Week…

bgrellman09 Friday, September 28th, 2012

I’m so excited to share with you something that happened this week.

First of all it is important that you meet my roomates. I am living with two of the greatest girls. There names are Sami and Eryn. Eryn and I go way back… like awkward jr. high days. We are friends from home and it has been truly a dream to be best friends that turned into roomates.

Sami on the other hand… she is an answer to both Eryn and I’s prayers. Sami was introduced to us at the end of last year by a mutual friend. After 15 mintutes of meeting each other for the first time… we decided to be roomates! Eryn and I continually express how blessed we feel to have been put in a living situation as great as this one. Remember these two girls because I will talk about them a lot this year:)

Now that you know my roomates I can tell you the amazing thing that happed this week. Sami got baptized!! Once a semester after our Wednesday night chapel, our campus Pastor Woody gives students the opportunity to be baptized. Here is a picture of us with Sami right after the exciting event!

One of the things I love most about APU is that they allow students to come as they are. I will forever be grateful for nights like this that give friends of mine the opportunity to take a public step in their faith. It is so beautiful to watch students come to APU as one person, and leave as an another.

I hope you all get the chance to experience a night similar to mine one day!!

Attitude of Worship

Kevin Mannoia Monday, September 24th, 2012

I hope you had a good weekend and were able to find a place of worship.  Even though we focus our worship on Sundays (or in some cases Saturday), there is never a time when we cannot have an attitude and heart of worship, no matter where you might be.  Remember that we worship in spirit and in truth.  Although it is important to be with others to experience corporate worship and Christian community, you can bring an attitude of worship to your daily work and even to your classes.  Imagine that – work becomes worship! But when you see all that you have as a gift from God, your natural response is one of worship. With that attitude you are saying that no matter how hard, what you do – in work, study, or home – is done acknowledging God as the audience. And suddenly everything becomes more focused and has meaning.

If you have any needs you’d like us to pray for, just let me know and our Prayer Partners will pray for you.  And – join others on Facebook at: http://www.facebook.com/groups/apusoulquest/

Blessings on you,

Kevin

Here we go!

I cannot believe it is my last year of college. Where has the time gone? I have a packed schedule this year but it’s full of so many things I love. For starters let me introduce you to my weekend which happens to include three of my favorite things…

1) COUGAR WALK! Cougar walk is the main strip of campus with the most eateries. It is a fun place to sit outside and catch up with friends, while eating a delicious BBQ chicken sandwich of course.

2) I now want to introduce you to my Young Life Team. You will hear more about them this year! I lead Young Life at a local High School with some of my closest friends. I’m so thankful that APU has started working so closely with Young Life because I feel like two great worlds are colliding. Here is a picture of my team aka some of my favorite people!

3) Last but not least… I got to go to the beach this weekend. I LOVE the beach! And in case you didn’t know it has been hot here so it was so nice to cool off in the ocean. I love being 30 min from the beach. Here is a picture of El Segundo, where I spent my Saturday!

Well that’s all I have for now. I can’t wait to have you journey through this year with me! Off to class…

Everything Is Fresh

Kevin Mannoia Monday, September 17th, 2012

Welcome to the new week.  It represents a new slate, a new opportunity, a new challenge.  Although there may be some baggage that carries over from last week or even from months before, today is fresh.  God made it for you to step into with fresh eyes, fresh energy and fresh anticipation that He will walk with you.  And remember, God has fresh hope that in this new week you will welcome Him as your primary companion on the way.  That’s important because not only is this a new week for you, but it is a new one for the two of you together.  That’s why He has made a special promise to you — His grace is fresh every day.  Today is no exception.  Everything is new today, including the grace of God.  So step into the day with confidence and reliance on that fresh grace for everything the day holds.  And may God be with you.

If you have any prayer requests, simply hit reply with your request and our Prayer Partners will pray specially for you this week.

Grace for today,

Kevin

Options to Engage

Kevin Mannoia Friday, September 14th, 2012

I usually email you in the beginning of the week with an encouragement and devotional thought.  However, at the beginning of the academic year, there are some special things I want to invite you to engage in if you wish:

1. The Undergraduate Students at APU are always in need of mentors who could meet with them a few times each month.  You may be a perfect fit for some Undergrad young man or woman who wants to learn from you.  If this is something you would like to explore, please email the UG Spiritual Mentoring Coordinator, Jeanine Smith at: jksmith@apu.edu

2.  You are also invited to stay in touch from week to week with other Graduate students and perhaps find advice, help, encouragement or simply a greater sense of belonging.  To do that, visit the SoulQuest Facebook site: http://www.facebook.com/groups/apusoulquest/

I pray you will have a great weekend and consider staying connected in one of these ways.

May God bless you richly,

Kevin
