G’day Ladies and Gents…or maybe good evening…whoa, kinda weird—I’ll never know when you will read this…trippy-

Anyhow, how you doing? Hope you are doing great…truly. I’m doing pretty darn good—it’s only Saturday at noon and I already went to an awesome student leadership retreat and won my intramural softball game. Yeah team Xtreme!!! Not to mention, in about an hour or so I’m going to do a fun weekend with a bunch of friends--including my fiancée and roommates—down at a beach house in Newport Beach. A little hang out, a little surfing, a little grubbing…pretty much sounds like heaven to me—well, without the gold streets, of course. I’m really stoked; it’s going to be a great weekend!

It’s good to have a fun weekend; it has been a busy week filled with escapades of adventure—kinda. No, but really, it was a busy week. It’s pretty crazy, in my Theology class we have moved into the heart of the subject matter and it’s intense. We have reached my professor’s favorite book—Torture and Eucharist. It’s a book focused around the oppression and intense political managing in Chile under the Pinochet government. Specifically, the torture and martyrdom of believers and how those believers made their oppression into a holy Eucharistic act. …Intense, eh? I know all the theology lovers are freaking out right now in jealousy. Ok…breath…breath.  Anyways, the class is full of students genuinely seeking Godly wisdom and guidance in life—which makes for good discussion.

On a lighter note—or perhaps it can be seen as a much heavier note, heavier than the great kong—the kick that my roommates and I have been on this last week has been racquetball. There is a pay and play place around here that is open 24 hours—it’s SICK! (Just in case, when I say “sick” it usually means “totally and complete amazing in every way”)  We leave at like 10:30 pm and have intense 4 person tourneys—loser buys slurpees, or Alberto’s, or Donut man—whatever the bet is. Its funny though, the 7-11 guy is probably confused because 4 out the last 5 days he has seen us at like 1:30 am, super sweaty and gulping down big slurpees (with the sour straw, of course). However, Jared always get like the tiny slurpee that is ridiculous…I mean, seriously, there is more condensation on the side of my cup than all of Jared’s slurpee. Whatever, I still love him. The worker may not be that confused though, I’m sure 7-11 workers see some pretty crazy, weird/awkward stuff! Viva los 7-11 workers! Keep on keeping on friends!

Racquetball is nuts though. Just the other day I hit Chad in the forehead with the ball, Shawn swung his racquet like a samurai sword and I hit the wall going like warp factor 3…not quite 4 though…maybe next time.

Ultimate Disc has been great this week too. We got a good looking team this year with a lot of talented freshmen. I think once they really start getting an eye for the game, they’ll really excel. My role on the team is a little different than in the past, being less of a driver/cutter and more of a thrower—the change is fun. Cody, our captain, who took over for the amazing Seth is doing a great job leading the team—he’s a great guy! All you prospective students, start throwing a disc (Frisbee) around now so that when you come you can rock it on the ultimate field.

Besides that, I have had a great week with a lot of one-on-ones with some cool people that I really respect! This is my favorite part about APU, the time you get to spend in conversation with your amazing fellow students and staff. APU is filled all the time with students just talking—lots of times, deeply—to one another. Not to mention, faculty and staff love to meet with students as well! It’s sick! (remember the meaning…)

Last, but certainly not least, I went, last week, with a couple of my Alpha leaders to this World Vision AIDS experience tent, that my dad was organizing at my church and was really impacted. I went to Africa (Malawi, South Africa, Zambia, and Namibia)  in 2005 and this tent really sparked a lot of the passions inside me that were dormant for a while. Anyways, got really passionate about wanting to bring the tent to APU and made some calls and looked at calendars and, well, the ball is rolling! The tent will be coming, probably some time this semester—most likely Nov. 11-17. Its great, praise God! Though, that means a lot of work for me—but God allowed me to have only nine units and some free time here for a reason—and I think this is one of the reasons. Well, tally hoe!

Well, my brothas and sistas, hope you have a great week! Keep it real, charge hard! I’m going to leave you with this, an ancient saying taken from the hieroglyphics of someplace super cool, that I got on a 50 cent stick-on tattoo at Country Chicken and Ribs: “Fire and Desire.” Peace.

P.S. Sorry for the grammar mistakes last weeks? I’ll tried to do better these time.
