LAC RETREAT!!!

Monday, January 28, 2008, 1:59 p.m.

Hello Everyone,

This past weekend the Smith Hall LAC went on a weekend retreat to Big Bear, California.  Just for those of you who do not know, LAC is a group freshmen representatives from each wing of each Residence Hall.  Our job is to work closely with the Community Adviser to plan hall events, ours CA is Brice Myers

We also work with the Residence Adviser, mine being Blake heal, to help keep the residences of each wing connected.

Anyway, we had been planning this trip since last semester and were very excited to partake on this journey.  And a journey is an understatement.  This was our first obstacle!!

We had to install a new water heater in the cabin that we were staying in to help Brice's Aunt.  It was going good till Ben Logan and Aaron Newman, two of the five LAC members, installed the wires incorrectly and the water heater sparked.  It was not damaged but it was scary.

After that we had such a fun time just watching movies, cooking food together, eating at a dinner table together, and really getting to know each other.  Deeper than, "What is your favorite football team?"

Oh I forgot to mention all the snow that was on the mountain when we went.  I have never been to the snow so I was like a little kid in a candy store!  I felt embarrassed running around in the snow like I would never see it again in my life, but I was having so much fun.  We also had this huge hill behind the cabin to slide down!

At night we watched Lost, which is such a clever show! I had never seen it before that trip.  We had fun staying up late and just messing around, GROUNDHOG!!!

Also that night, we went sledding in short shorts and no shirt.  It was freezing and the snow had turned into rough ice!  Scott Crozier scrapped up him leg really bad.  His whole thigh was red!!

Finally, we wrapped up the weekend with an interesting adventure back home.  We were behind a little Nissan 350Z with out chains on an icy road.  When it slid to the side of the road, we went into the ditch with them. Don't worry it was a small ditch, but it wasn't small enough that we could drive out of it. Before we know it, more cars begin to pile up behind us, and one of them actually hit us.

After an hour of helping others get out, we are helped out.  Even though a car hit us, it was a funny experience and brought us even closer.

It was a definite highlight of freshmen year, and I am so glad that I was able to experience it.  Oh, and Jon Sprik we missed you dearly, and Tudor Williams was there in spirit.

Well there is a story!

Always and God Bless,

Michael Lozano
