Tuesday, Feb 28, 2012, 7–8 p.m.

Posted by: Center for Research on Ethics and Values

This year's James L. Hedges Distinguished Lecture will feature Lori Anne Ferrell discussing her book The Bible and the People (Yale University Press, 2008). Ferrell is Professor of Early Modern History and Literature at Claremont Graduate University. The Bible and the People focuses on the English-speaking world, and charts the extraordinary voyage of the Bible from manuscript Bibles to the Gutenberg volumes, Bibles commissioned by kings and queens, the Eliot Indian Bible, door-to-door salesmen’s Bibles, children’s Bibles, Gideon Bibles, teen magazine Bibles, and more. In it Ferrell discusses the Bible’s profound impact on readers over the centuries and, in turn, the mark those readers made upon it.

The lecture is free and open to the APU community and the public.
