Faith and the Arts

An interdisciplinary panel from Art, Music, Theatre, Film, & TV, and Theology will discuss the topic “Faith and the Arts.”  How should we understand the performative aspects of faith, both within the church and in the public arena?  Music, drama, and visual arts are gaining a greater role in the church, yet some believe that the church is the only place that Christians should minister in the arts, while others believe that the arts have no place in a worship setting, insisting that only “ministry” belongs in the church.  Still others believe that Christians should only minister in church or Christian settings, not in the secular arena.  What is the modern role of the arts in the Christian faith?  How has it changed over time and what are the possibilities that involve the performative and visual aspects of faith to further the ministry and mission of the church?

Panel: Jim Daichendt - Art Thomas Parham - Film and TV Michelle Jensen - Music Monica Ganas - Theatre Paul Boles - Theology
