Brain Awareness Week: Workshop and Panel: Traumatic Brain Injury

APU celebrates its third annual Brain Awareness Week April 7-11, 2014. The theme for this year’s events is Traumatic Brain Injury.

This workshop and panel discussion on “Traumatic Brain Injury: Understanding the Symptoms, Causes, Controversies, and Treatment” will feature a short presentation on the history, epidemiology, diagnosis, and neurocritical care for TBI from faculty at the Brain Injury Research Center in Los Angeles. Following the presentation, the panel discussion will feature stories and insight from the executive director of the Betty Clooney Center in Los Angeles, and Victor Santa Cruz, head coach of the Azusa Pacific University football team.  The panel includes:

• David McArthur, Ph.D., MPH Brain Injury Research Center, UCLA Neurosurgery David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA
• Robert Almaraz, Executive Director, Betty Clooney Center for Persons With Traumatic Brain Injury
• Victor Santa-Cruz, Head Football Coach, Azusa Pacific University
• Moderator: Skyla M. Herod, Ph.D., Associate Professor, Department of Biology and Chemistry, Brain Awareness Week Director, and neuroscientist specializing in aspects of stress and neurodevelopment
