"Using A Strengths Approach to Engage Diverse Learners"

Strengths development has been identified as a pathway that increases academic motivation and control in college students. The strengths development approach suggests that all students can learn under the right conditions (Kuh, Schuh & Whitt, 2005). So, what are the strengths-based strategies that can be used in the classroom to make the learning experience engaging for diverse learners at APU?

Participants will engage in a guided conversation that highlights ways that a strengths approach can be used to engage and energize diverse learners. Participants will also consider ways that the strengths language can be leveraged to promote community in the classroom.
