Smith is the founding pastor of Mountainside Communion, a Church of the Nazarene in Monrovia, and an adjunct faculty member at Fuller Theological Seminary and Azusa Pacific University, teaching courses in congregational mission and Christian vocation. He is ordained in the Church of the Nazarene and has served on the pastoral staff of both Pasadena First Church of the Nazarene and Faith Community Church of the Nazarene in Yorba Linda.
