Born and raised in the Philippines as the child of missionary parents, Bruner is a professor of Practical Theology at APU.  His areas of interest include theology, 19th and 20th century literature, the intersection of literature and theology, spiritual identity and ego development, theological and cultural hermeneutics, and Christian education. Bruner is an ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church and a resident scholar at the Huntington Library in San Marino.
