History Day L.A. provides opportunities for students in grades 4–12 to create posters, exhibits, papers, websites, performances, and documentary presentations on this year’s theme, Taking a Stand in History. Participation improves academic achievement and develops important 21st-century skills to prepare students for college, career, and civic life.

Student projects are judged by community members and history-social science professionals. Winners from all categories are invited to compete at the state level; state winners proceed to compete at the Kenneth E. Behring National History Day Contest at the University of Maryland, College Park.
