Campus Safety to Crack Down on Unsecured/
Unregistered Bicycles
February 1, 2005
Due to the sudden increase of stolen bicycles on campus, Campus Safety has taken a proactive approach toward unsecured and unregistered bicycles on campus.
There have been a total of 30 bicycles stolen from APU students across the campuses from September to present. Only a handful were registered with this department, and a few were secured with a lock. Out of the bikes with a lock, some were improperly secured (lock and chain only through a tire and the bike frame), and some had an inexpensive cable, which was cut.
One of the best manufactured and versatile bicycle locks today is a "U-shaped" unilock.
Article 9 of the APU Campus Safety Vehicle Code states that all bicycles are required to be registered with Campus Safety. In an effort to stop the thefts of bicycles, Campus Safety officers will be possibly confiscating unsecured bicycles, and taking them for safekeeping.
If your bicycle is registered with Campus Safety, and it is stolen, the information which is vital to possibly help identify the stolen bicycle will be on hand. This important information includes the make, model, and serial number stamped onto the bicycle's frame.

As a reminder, should you observe any suspicious persons or activity occurring on or off campus, please contact Campus Safety immediately.
