About the Program

In the MIS/CIS Program, students may complete their degree in 15 months. The accelerated 39-unit curriculum is concentrated into 64 weekly four-hour class sessions offered in a lock-step format that coordinates students' class and work schedules.

Students attend classes one evening a week in a classroom environment that emphasizes application of concepts as well as understanding of theory. For students' convenience, all texts and materials are delivered directly to their classroom. Classes are formed around cohorts, enabling students to progress through the program and graduate together. This cohort design promotes synergistic learning as individual students each contribute knowledge from their own area of specialty in the field of information technology. Many students find the resulting networking opportunities to be invaluable.

Student Learning Outcomes

  • Develop a functional understanding of the principle and theory of data structures.
  • Acquire relevant technical knowledge in order to build: Gantt charts, context diagrams, data flow diagrams, data dictionaries, HIPO diagrams, ER diagrams, and structure charts.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of database applications using a relational database management system such as Microsoft AccessTM.
  • Demonstrate skills using the fundamental program flow-of-control constructs: sequence, selection, and iteration in an even-driven environment.
  • Differentiate data link-layer protocols (Ethernet, Token Ring, FDDI, etc.) form the upper-layer protocols, including protocol suites (TCP/IP), Apple Talk, ISX/SPX, etc.
  • Complete an Internet application that utilizes PHP and AJAX (asynchronous JavaScript and XML).

Benefits

  • The MIS/CIS Program is specifically designed for the student with a professional background in information technology.
  • The accelerated program pace enables students to attend school one evening a week over a 15-month period, allowing students to more easily balance the demands of school, work, and family.
  • Program content emphasizes professional application, so what students learn in the classroom has direct bearing on their work environment.
  • Classes are taught in a cohort format, allowing working professionals to stay together throughout the duration of the program. The diversity of this group in terms of technical specialization and industry knowledge provides a rich learning environment.
  • The MIS/CIS Program offers a unique opportunity for working adults who already possess a minimum of two years of experience in the field of MIS or CIS, to further enhance their technical skills and conveniently complete a bachelor's degree.
  • Professors are specialists in the field.
  • Curriculum is updated frequently to keep current with new trends.
