C.H.A.M.P. Alumni Association
The C.H.A.M.P. Alumni Association was established in the fall of 2002 as a means to stay connected with former C.H.A.M.P. students and their families. The goal of the Alumni Association is to provide continued education about the benefits of school success and higher education.
With support from APU’s Office of Alumni Relations, all C.H.A.M.P. students currently involved in the program have the opportunity to sign up to be C.H.A.M.P. alumni.
Membership in the C.H.A.M.P. Alumni Association
Upon graduation, each student is given a welcome packet introducing them to the Alumni Association. This packet provides students and parents with information about the Alumni Association and related C.H.A.M.P. events.
With generous contributions from the Azusa/Glendora Rotary Club and APU’s Office of Alumni Relations, each student is given a stretchable book cover with the C.H.A.M.P. alumni logo on the front, which serves as a daily reminder to be “College Headed and Mighty Proud.”
In addition to this welcome packet, students and parents will receive an annual newsletter with important information about current C.H.A.M.P. events, reflections on the graduation ceremony, and tips for pursuing a college education.
C.H.A.M.P. Alumni Association Picnic
Each spring, former C.H.A.M.P. students and their families join with current and past APU mentors for a day of fun, food, and games. During the picnic, the children participate in a variety of games and activities while their parents attend a workshop about college admission and financial aid. This workshop is intended to provide parents with helpful tips to encourage and support their children as they strive for success in education. The event concludes with a picnic-style lunch and a raffle with prizes donated by the APU Bookstore.
