Victims of Crime Program
APU’s Child and Family Development Center (CFDC) began their Victims of Crime (VOC) Program in 2001, treating child and adult victims of reported and filed crimes. The individual and/or family is assisted with the initial state application, and a bilingual (English and Spanish) administrative team coordinates services with the client’s attorney. Local police departments, courts, school districts, and the VOC Program staff work together to help victims overcome trauma they have experienced.
Participants in the Victims of Crime Program are thoroughly screened to determine the impact of the trauma on their daily lives. Counseling is provided on an individual or group basis, and is available in a variety of languages (English, Spanish, and other languages) to address emotional and psychological conditions such as grief, depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder.
CFDC staff members include clinical supervisors, and counselors in the VOC Program include trained marriage and family interns, psychologists completing their post-doctoral fellowships, and faculty from APU’s Department of Graduate Psychology.
An advisory board of community experts is under development to facilitate a professional consultation base and provide the most effective treatment possible.
The CFDC is open Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m.-9 p.m.; Friday, 9 a.m.-6 p.m.; and Saturday, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., and is located in the shopping center at Citrus and Alosta avenues, across the street from APU. For further information, please call (626) 815-5421 or email cfdc@apu.edu.
