Looking Back

2005-2007: Service Partnerships
During these three years, City Links resources were redirected to focus on on-going partnerships and service opportunities within the city of Azusa happening on a weekly basis throughout the year.

2004: Neighbors Serving Together
More than 1,000 new APU students spent time working at local churches, schools, parks, and the San Gabriel Valley river to rake, weed, pick up trash, as well as meet other maintenance needs. Select groups also attended a meeting where Robert Person, Azusa assistant city manager, spoke on the history of Azusa followed by a tour of the city. Students also broke ground and cleared debris for future planting at the new community garden, a project that began two years prior. The day closed with a festival for the entire community. 2003: Growing Our Neighborhood
Highlighted by a large-scale river clean-up, City Links 2003 emphasized the natural resources of our community. More than 20 service sites provided diverse opportunities to get involved in the community through serving. Many Azusa Unified School District schools participated in various activities at the festival. More than 1,800 people celebrated the day by listening to music, eating food from Robertos, and diving into a 350-foot ice cream sundae.

2002: Neighbors Working Together
The second annual City Links introduced a new format centered on developing community leadership. The event gave ownership to 23 community centers as they defined and created service opportunities. The festival at APU’s West Campus athletic fields highlighted opportunities for future involvement in service throughout Azusa.

2001: A Community at Work
Focusing on two neighborhood improvement zones, the 2001 City Links elevated the Student Day of Service to a new level of partnership between the city of Azusa and Azusa Pacific University. Major work projects were accomplished at Mt. View Elementary, Zacatecas Park, and Memorial Park. The closing festival at Memorial Park included great community performances.

1996-2000: New Student Day of Service
