Message from the Dean

David L. Weeks, Ph.D.

Welcome to the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, commonly referred to as CLAS. APU's academic programs in the arts, humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences have a unique institutional home: They have been placed in the only "college" within the university structure. This institutional distinction corresponds to the college's universal purpose, education that prepares students not for a specific profession but for life itself, for the moral, intellectual, social, civic, and spiritual maturity that accompanies a life well-lived.

The college includes 11 academic departments, 4 centers, and nearly 120 full-time faculty. We offer 27 majors, an adult and professional studies program in computer science, graduate programs in art, TESOL, and Urban Leadership, and programs in Liberal Studies and the Humanities. The college also houses the yearbook, student newspaper, forensics program, Theater program, and campus radio station.

As dean, I am privileged to work alongside the outstanding teachers and dedicated scholars who serve as CLAS faculty members. Each one is committed to working closely with the bright, inquisitive students taking courses in CLAS. The combination of good students and talented educators creates a vibrant academic community.

Please visit our campus and meet the people of CLAS.

Sincerely,

David L. Weeks, Ph.D.
Dean and Professor
