Opportunities at APU

Most of these programs are managed through the Center for Global Learning and Engagement. For more information about these and other study abroad options, please contact the Center.

AustraLearn
This is a study abroad option places you at one of 34 universities in Australia, New Zealand, or Fiji for either a semester or a full academic year. You have the opportunity to study within your major with local students, and you can often take laboratory courses and other upper-division science courses. Each participating university has a minimum GPA requirement.

Azusa Oxford Semester
This program affords students a unique model of study: students meet one-on-one with their tutors weekly in their major and minor area of study and discuss assigned reading material in those areas. This program allows students to become more acquainted with the literature in their areas of study and it fosters independence and deeper understanding of the subject matter. Laboratory courses are not usually offered at Oxford for APU students. The minimum GPA requirement for this program is 3.40.

Azusa South Africa Semester
This program currently does not offer science classes to our majors, but students may take general education classes to fulfill university requirements. For instance, take advantage of being able to study Zulu for your eight-unit foreign language requirement in one semester! This opportunity may fit well for a student who is an applied health major in the physical therapy track. The minimum GPA requirement for this program is 2.5.

Au Sable Institute of Environmental Studies
The Au Sable Institute is ideal for a science major as it offers transferrable, upper-division science courses with an emphasis on stewardship of God’s creation. Courses may be taken during APU’s spring semester or during the summer, when three different sessions are offered. Classes are offered at the Great Lakes campus in Michigan, the Pacific Rim campus in Washington, or the India campus in Tamil Nadu. Courses are numerous and varied and include Tropical Agriculture and Missions, Environmental Chemistry, Watershed Management, Introduction to Environmental Medicine and Public Health, Aquatic Biology, and many others.

The Institute also offers a certificate program for stewardship ecologists, naturalists, environmental analysts, land resources analysts, and water resources analysts. In addition, students may pursue a Certified Stewardship Ecologist diploma.

For pre-medical students or applied health majors, there is a 50 percent tuition fellowship available. Other financial aid is available, including special grants for citizens of India.

Creation Care Study Program
The Creation Care Study Program is a very unique opportunity to integrate the study of tropical ecology with theology and sustainable development on campuses in either Belize or the South Pacific (New Zealand and Samoa). Elective courses are also offered. The program lasts for one academic semester and is only open to students attending Christian colleges. The minimum GPA requirement for this program is 2.75.

The Fulbright Program
The Fulbright Program, offered through the United States Department of State, is a prestigious and competitive nationwide award for students who are United States citizens wishing to study or to do research abroad after graduation.

If you are interested in this program, the deadlines are in October preceding the academic year you wish to attend the program. Planning ahead is critical for this opportunity, so start thinking about this and talking to your professors at the end of your freshman or sophomore year. At APU, we offer workshops on writing essays for the Fulbright application and we have a Fulbright program advisor with whom you can meet.
