About the Program

Why This Major Is Relevant

Advances in computer science have enabled major breakthroughs in scientific study, including advanced study of the mind, the mapping of the human genome, and the exploration of protein folding through distributed computing. Meanwhile, subsets of computer scientific study, such as artificial intelligence and machine learning, have increased the efficiency and liquidity of financial markets and drastically changed world economies. An increasingly interrelated and connected world calls for professionals who understand the complexities of the systems involved and can use them to address pressing societal problems. APU computer science majors are uniquely prepared to meet this challenge, provide the leadership and expertise needed in uncertain times, and make a difference in the world around them.

Gain In-depth Learning Experiences

APU computer science majors have the use of two computer labs on campus—the advanced technologies lab and the multimedia lab.

Unlike many majors, computer science graduates usually find excellent jobs in their field without an advanced degree. However, many companies provide education benefits that pay for graduate studies.
