About the Program
Why This Major Is Relevant
Our society is driven by the written word. Business, entertainment, religion, and politics all revolve around the effective use of language. There is an ever-present need for professionals who can craft communication to achieve a goal, whether it is to entertain, inform, persuade, or sell. APU English majors are uniquely equipped to meet this need, and can anticipate plentiful employment opportunities as a result.
Gain In-depth Learning Experiences
The English major recognizes the importance of race, class, ethnicity, and gender in shaping the literary landscape of the 21st century. As a result, multicultural topics and authors are embedded in courses throughout the literature core. In addition, at least one offering each year focuses on multicultural topics and authors, such as Postcolonial and Third World Literature, Significant Authors (African American, Hispanic, Asian American, Native American, Jewish, etc.), and Images of Women in Literature.
