Brooke Van Dam, Ph.D, is an assistant professor of communication studies at Azusa Pacific University. Brooke’s research interests are in the study of journalists and journalism and the changes brought to them with the onset of new forms of technology. Before beginning her time at APU, she spent three years researching online journalism at City University London for her Ph.D. thesis entitled ‘The Distinctive Nature of Making News Online: A Study of News Production at latimes.com and salon.com.’

Brooke’s interest in journalism and its changing role in our society have been spurred on by several years spent as both a broadcast and online journalist. She continues to be active in the journalism community. Brooke’s current research looks at the ethical changes of the newly defined user/producer relationship in online journalism as well as recent controversial news sources such as Wikileaks.

Brooke currently teaches a variety of classes at APU including Introduction to Journalism, Broadcast Journalism and Broadcast Workshop. She has also advised The Clause website which can be found at theclause.org.
