Brooke Van Dam is an Associate Professor of Communication Studies at Azusa Pacific University. She received her PhD in Media Sociology from City University London and her Masters in International Journalism from the University of Westminster. Her PhD, which was completed in 2010, focused on the changing practices of journalists that work to create the world of online news. This research has become a key feature of Brooke’s teaching at Azusa Pacific University where she currently works to ensure students are prepared for the evolving world of journalism. Her classes in Public Affairs, Digital News Gathering, and others teach students how to report in print, on air, and especially online with social media.

Brooke is currently the Program Coordinator for the Journalism major at Azusa Pacific University. She directly supervises the online student radio station KAPU as well as the newly created television news program Capture.

Before making her way to London and then APU, Brooke spent her 20s working for ABC, NBC, and FOX affiliate local news stations. Brooke also worked as an international education correspondent for while in London. Later, in 2012, she worked in Web Production for Southern California Public Radio.

Recently, Brooke organized and hosted, TEDxAzusaPacificUniversity. The inaugural half-day event featured seven live TEDx talks and has been watched by thousands, in person, via livestream and on YouTube. The event brought together many of Brooke's favorite things: new ideas, vibrant discussion and media.
