Joyce W. Lacy completed her Ph.D. in Neurobiology and Behavior at the University of California, Irvine in 2012. Under the mentorship of Craig Stark, Ph.D, she specialized in high-resolution functional MRI (fMRI) of the human medial temporal lobe studying processes that underlie episodic memory. At APU, her research continues to encompass human learning and memory, in particular how we encode memories for one-time events and how the brain deals with interference between similar events. As an alumna of a Christian liberal arts college, Lacy believes in the importance of faith and learning integration. As a Christian neuroscientist, she believes in the need for Christian voices to join the conversation in both science and religion. Outside of academia, she enjoys a good football game, cares about environmental stewardship, and loves trying new foods.
