Profile
Kieran Gaya, A.B.D., assistant professor of Art History, was born in Dublin, Ireland of Mauritian parents. He is a highly cultured, well-traveled individual with fluency in four languages and knowledge of a few others who has lived and learned in Africa, Asia, and Europe. He has served, amongst other things, as a student missionary with IFES (IVCF) in Italy, interpreter at the Vatican, and youth leader at a Baptist church in Rome, while studying and lecturing on a wide variety of topics connected to theology and the arts, cross-cultural relations, and languages. Gaya has participated in missionary endeavours in Africa, Asia, and Europe. His research areas include the usage of religious language, symbolism, and iconography in political and social propaganda in past and contemporary history. Gaya is also interested in the study of cross-cultural missions in its responsibilities with regards to applying Christian truth whilst avoiding an imposition of cultural values limited to the background of the missionary.
