Message from the Director

One of the most fulfilling and life-changing experiences I had was the year I taught English at Beijing Medical College in 1981. English teaching became my career, and language and culture learning my passion. After returning to the States to marry and start a family, I continued to teach English as a second language and completed three degrees, one of which was an M.A. in TESOL from Azusa Pacific University.

What a joy and privilege to be back at APU as a teacher educator, equipping individuals for the cross-cultural ministry of Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL). I am delighted to be part of a quality program tailored to meet the needs of Christian professionals teaching abroad, and to be able to extend a 50 percent per unit discount to these hard working teachers. Whether your M.A. in TESOL is “for here or to go” (on campus or field-based) we are here to serve and equip you so you can serve and equip others, ministering in and through our teaching.

If God has called you to teach cross-culturally, and you desire to acquire the attitudes, knowledge, and skills needed to be more effective as a cross-cultural teacher, come and join us and see what God will do.

In His service and yours,

Mary Shepard Wong, Ph.D.
Director, M.A./TESOL Field-Based Program
