*The following rates apply in calculating housing costs: $27/night (single) or $23/night (double) at APU, or $10/night in Thailand.

Field-based students must procure a check to pay for tuition, housing, and miscellaneous fees the first day of class each term, and pay for housing in Thailand on their own. Students purchase textbooks in advance (July) for the entire academic year (two terms) at the University Bookstore.

Financial Aid

Several types of financial aid are available to graduate students who are U.S. citizens. The resources range from federal loans and state grants to, for some graduate programs, fellowships and scholarships. Military Benefits

Military members—and in some cases their spouses and dependents—qualify for financial assistance covering tuition, housing, and books. Azusa Pacific is a Yellow Ribbon University, Military Friendly School, and Best for Vets College, so you can be confident that you’ll receive the benefits and flexibility you need to complete your education.

Field-based Tuition Discount

Students enrolled in the field-based program receive a tuition discount, reflected in the costs above, and pay a percentage of the regular graduate TESOL tuition.

The John Tsern Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) Scholarship

The John Tsern TEFL Scholarship is open to new graduate students who have been accepted to APU’s field-based TESOL program and who are committed to teaching English in China during the two years of their academic program. This award recognizes Christian scholars who will perpetuate the mission of Azusa Pacific University during their academic studies and later as language educators. A two-year, renewable grant of $5,000 (totaling $10,000) will be awarded to up to five different recipients.

Applicants must be enrolled full-time and should be in good standing with the program and university (not on academic probation or conditionally admitted). Recipients will be distinguished by the rigor and dedication they apply to their graduate studies, the skill and effort they apply to their craft of teaching, and the integrity and Christ-like compassion they demonstrate to their students and colleagues. Charles and Shirley Stapleton Graduate Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship is open to students enrolled in APU’s on-campus, online, and field-based TESOL programs. Each Fall and Spring term, $500 is awarded to two different recipients. Applicants must be enrolled full-time, and should be in good standing with the program and university (not on academic probation or conditionally admitted). Scholarship recipients will be notified by mid-November and June after review of a 500-word essay.
