Profile
As a filmmaker, Michael has worked around the world in documentary and narrative productions, experiences that include lensing documentary episodes for ESPN, independent films in Scotland, a whale documentary in Alaska, and a kung fu film in Italy. As a cinephile, he produced the City of the Angels Film Festival in 2005 and has served as the director of the CCCU Cinema Studies Conference. As an educator, Michael is the former assistant director of the Los Angeles Film Studies Center, where he taught cinema production and critical studies courses. He is also pursuing a doctorate in education at the Educational Leadership Program at UCLA.

Michael is an alumnus of Wheaton College and a former Peace Corps volunteer who went on to earn an MFA in film and video production at the University of Southern California. He started out his college years intent on a career in journalism, but making his first film changed all that. Journalism stuck with him, though, as he has written many articles of film criticism for publications including Policy Review and Relevant magazine.
