Theater Arts Major

The theater arts major within the Department of Theater, Film and Television prepares students to integrate a Christian worldview into their study of the history, theory, and philosophy of theater while guiding and assisting them as they act, direct, write, produce, and evaluate critical and creative efforts that prepare them for involvement in entertainment, education, and church-related fields.

Benefits and Distinctives

The theater department currently performs 8-10 main stage productions per year, ranking among the leaders in providing students with opportunities to practice their craft. In addition to performing, the department is dedicated to the study of all aspects of theater as an integral part of a Christ-centered, liberal arts education.

What About Internship and Graduate School Opportunities?

Students seeking internships rely on departmental announcements, Internet postings, and networking via faculty-to-industry contacts. Through these means, students gain hands-on experience with real-world relevance in various fields related to their interests. In addition to transitioning into one of APU’s 23 master’s degrees or 7 doctorates, many students continue graduate-level study at other prestigious Southern California universities such as University of Southern California (USC), University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), Loyola Marymount University, and Pepperdine University.

“What makes APU’s theater department superior to others is its dual emphasis on Christ and excellence. Unlike most theater schools, the faculty, staff and students have a spirit of love and community rather than competition.”
