Growing for Purposeful Service (GPS @ APU)

What Is "GPS @ APU: Growing for Purposeful Service"?

The Global Positioning System (GPS) employs satellites and receivers as technological resources that permit users to identify their precise location on earth. In a similar manner, GPS @ APU: Growing for Purposeful Service provides resources to assist students in:

  • Identifying their vocation (or calling)
  • Exploring possible ways to live out that vocation in service to Christ, the Church, and the world

GPS @ APU: Growing for Purposeful Service includes programs in support of the Four Cornerstones (Christ, Scholarship, Community, and Service):

  • Funded student internships in area churches and community organizations
  • Support for Alpha Program for incoming freshmen students
  • Support for Omega Project programming for senior students
  • StrengthsFinder inventory and assessment for transfer students
  • Support for Matheteis Forum, a monthly dinner meeting for discussion of current social issues and possible Christian responses
  • Courses for faculty members in the integration of faith and learning
  • Mini-grants for special programs in service and calling
  • Other initiatives that encourage students to consider ways to serve Christ, the Church, and the world through their chosen careers

GPS @ APU: Growing for Purposeful Service is funded through a grant received from Lilly Endowment, Inc.
