Our Purpose

In December 2002, Azusa Pacific University received a $2 million grant from Lilly Endowment, Inc., joining 87 other colleges and universities committed to implementing programs for the theological exploration of vocation. APU’s Vocation as Ministry/Ministry as Vocation initiative, managed by the Office of Christian Leadership and Vocation, is designed to encourage the entire APU community to consider how each person will live out his/her calling from God to serve both the Church and society. We accomplish this goal through partnerships with other offices at APU, such as Ministry and Service, Student Success, Career Services, Alumni Relations, and Faculty Development.

In August 2005, the Office of Christian Leadership and Vocation launched GPS @ APU: Growing for Purposeful Service. GPS @ APU provides resources to assist students in:

  • Identifying their vocation (or calling)
  • Exploring possible ways to live out that vocation in service to Christ, the Church, and the world.

Just as a GPS receiver relies on data from four or more satellites to deduce its location, GPS @ APU looks to the Four Cornerstones – Christ, Scholarship, Community, and Service – as crucial navigation aids for our journey through life.
