Matheteis Forum

Matheteis Forum is a monthly dinner and discussion forum designed to contribute to an atmosphere of discovery and interest in global concerns, local opportunities for response, and general intellectual enrichment connected to faith development. Matheteis is the Greek word meaning "disciple," and our goal is to create a forum that encourages discipleship through education on relevant ministry-related social issues.

Tim Hooten, director of the Office of Ministry and Service, described last year’s Matheteis Forums as a huge success. The forums provide opportunities for students, staff, and faculty to come together and discuss controversial issues in a collegiate manner. There was a variety of theological perspectives on the issues confronted this year from homelessness to the war on terror. Tim explained how college is a place where students are learning how to learn, and the Matheteis Forums give students the chance to better form their own Christian worldview and raise awareness of social justice. Tim was inspired by the level of leadership students displayed during the forums this year.
