Beverly Crain holds an MA degree in vocal performance from California State University, Fullerton, and a DMA degree in conducting from Claremont Graduate University. She studied opera and song at the Music Academy of the West and was awarded the Lotte Lehmann Foundation Award. Dr. Crain has been teaching private and class voice at Azusa Pacific University since January, 1987, and was the artistic director of the opera program for its first 10 years of productions.
Dr. Crain has sung lead roles with the Guild Opera Company of Los Angeles, Valley Opera, Desert Opera, and received the Best Actress Award from the Desert Theatre League. Dr. Crain has European representation as an opera singer and was engaged by the Münster Opera as Queen of the Night, has recorded arias with the Varna Philharmonic in Bulgaria, and has performed at the Rathaus in Vienna.
She has worked as a background vocalist for commercial recordings, including animated movies and solo artists. She is a member of ASCAP, the Voice Foundation, the Conductor’s Guild, and the Academy for New Musical Theatre, where she regularly composes music for new projects. She currently presenting duo concerts with accompanist, Jean Shackleton.
