David Beatty, M.M., has been a freelance studio trombone player in Los Angeles since 1978. His performance credits include music for motion pictures, television, commercials, and CDs. His trombone playing can be heard on many albums, including those of Ralph Carmichael, David T. Clydesdale, Andrae Crouch, Brian Duncan, Promise Keepers, Ron Kenoly, and Don Moen. His big-band credits range from the Bill Watrous Refuge West Big Band to the Glenn Miller Orchestra to his current position as first trombonist with the Ralph Carmichael Big Band. He has also performed in a number of symphony orchestras in Southern California, as well as for many theatrical productions. In addition to his performance credits, he is a composer, arranger, and music copyist, and is also in demand as an adjudicator and clinician for jazz clinics and festivals in Southern California. He has studied trombone with Miles Anderson, Roy Main, and William Adam, and is a former jazz improvisation student of Charlie Shoemake. Beatty has taught Music Fundamentals, Music Theory, Music Business, History of Jazz, History and Literature of Commercial Music, Songwriting, Score Preparation, Introduction to Music Technology, and Jazz Improvisation. His ensemble experience includes directing Trombone Choir, Brass Choir, Jazz Combo, and Jazz Big Band. He teaches commercial music and directs the APU Jazz Ensemble.
