In each of eight semesters as a music major, a student must meet the designated performance requirements as listed per major (see specific chart on major pages). Transfer students must participate each semester until they graduate or accumulate eight semesters. Membership in multiple ensembles in a given semester counts as only one semester toward the ensemble requirement.

General Education Options

There are specific General Education options and requirements for the music major (B.M.), and these vary between the composition, commercial music, music and worship, and performance areas. Please contact the School of Music at (626) 815-3848 or schoolofmusic@apu.edu.

Performance Forum

Music majors must be continuously enrolled in MUS 210 Performance Forum (may discontinue after eight semesters). Transfer students must enroll in MUS 210 and an approved ensemble every semester in attendance, up to eight semesters.

Performance Ensembles

In each of eight semesters as a music major, a student must meet the designated performance requirements as listed by major (see chart below). Transfer students must participate each semester until they graduate or accumulate eight semesters. Membership in multiple ensembles in a given semester counts as only one semester toward the ensemble requirement.

All ensembles listed require audition except Oratorio Choir.

Students are required to attend 14 School of Music-sponsored, on-campus recitals and concerts per year, 2 of which must be chosen from the Artist Concert Series recitals.
