APU’s theater arts major prepares students to integrate Christian faith and dramatic artistry. The degree provides a solid foundation in theater history, acting styles and techniques, and theater literature. These then serve as a foundation for in-depth study of the creative process, acting, directing, theater ministry, screenwriting, dramatic theory and criticism, scenic design, and stagecraft. Through APU’s theater program, the largest Christian theater program on the West Coast and only 25 miles from Hollywood, students practice artistic excellence in storytelling.
As students act, direct, write, produce, and evaluate critical and creative efforts, they are challenged to examine the intersection of Christianity and the arts, as well as the impact of Christian faith on social justice, ethics, and community development. Theater arts majors leave APU equipped to produce dramatic communication that reflects both the highest artistic standards and a Christian worldview.
