Getting Started

The first counseling session is free, and is called an "intake." The goals of the intake session are to become familiar with your counselor, to discuss your concerns or reasons for seeking treatment, and decide on a course of action to best meet your needs. The outcome of this discussion is likely to be one or more of the following:

  1. You may feel your concern has been adequately resolved and choose not to schedule further counseling.
  2. You and/or your intake counselor may decide that you would be better assisted by another resource or referral to an off-campus counselor.
  3. You and your intake counselor may decide that you would benefit from and be eligible for services through the University Counseling Center (UCC). In this situation, on-going counseling, up to 10 sessions per year, is available for a minimum cost per session:

Undergraduate Students: $5
Undergraduate Couples: $10

Graduate Students: $5
Graduate Couples: $10

Group Counseling: Variable, one-time fee

Sessions are typically 45 to 50 minutes in length, and fees are due and payable at each session.

For those who prefer to see a non-APU counselor, the UCC can also provide interested students, faculty, and staff with referrals to professional off-campus Christian counselors, many of whom work on a sliding payment scale.
