This is a general course in the basic laws and concepts of modern chemistry and the first of a two-semester sequence. Topics include atomic structure, chemical bonding, thermochemistry, stoichiometry, chemical reactions, solution chemistry, nuclear chemistry, and the behavior of gases. This class must be taken concurrently with the corresponding lab. Meets the general studies core requirement in Nature. Prerequisites: one year of high school chemistry or CHEM 101, and MATH 110 or equivalent
