Teaching Strategies for Diverse Learners
Units: 3
The focus of the course is on instructional models and
strategies which have been researched and refined to
produce student learning in a variety of settings,
subjects, and grade levels. In addition to the families
of models, the course introduces specific research-
based, subject-matter strategies for teaching reading,
writing, mathematics, oral communication, civics,
geography, history, and science. The course identifies
issues related to teaching a diverse student population
by considering learning styles, gender, ethnicity,
socioeconomic backgrounds, immigrant and second language
children, homeless children, and students with literacy
difficulties.
