Advanced Study of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment
This course focuses on educators' leadership roles in the alignment of the curriculum, instruction, and assessment in P–12 settings to advance school academic performance. It emphasizes the interrelatedness of those three concepts in effective planning, teaching and learning. Applications of theory-based curricular models, research-based instructional models, and classroom assessment tools are examined. The course aims for coherent designs of standards-based curriculum delivered with instructional strategies addressing the needs of diverse learners, and evaluated with an efficient system of assessment of student learning outcomes. Issues and challenges in practice are reviewed for improving student performance on state standardized tests. Plans will also be developed to facilitate professional development in educational settings.
