Media Law and Ethics

This advanced course analyzes past and recent interpretations of freedom of expression as argued in state and federal courts and other forums. Issues of concern include libel, right to privacy, information gathering, protection of sources and state secrets, the FCC and FTC, obscenity, and propaganda. The struggle of the press to maintain its role in this democratic society is emphasized. Prerequisite: COMM 200 and JOUR 210
