Family Forensic Psychology II

This is the final course of four electives in the Family Forensic Psychology Concentration. This course covers specialized issues within family forensic psychology and provides the student the opportunity to learn how to conduct evaluations that are useful for making legal dispositions within the family court system. Specifically, students will have the opportunity to learn the fundamental elements of conducting the following evaluations: visitation risk assessments; assessment of child trauma; assessment of child sexual abuse allegations; domestic violence risk assessments; battered spouse assessments; decisional/testamentary capacity and substituted judgment; and psychological autopsies and reproductive capacity. In addition, students will be exposed to divorce mediation strategies and more advanced expert testimony strategies. At the end of the sequence, the students will have the opportunity to participate in a mock court hearing where they will present their findings and undergo cross-examination by an attorney.
